Boone Creek Barrens & Buzzard Roost

I want to check out an area called Boone Creek Barrens (more info) in the Hoosier National Forest -- it's a unique area with patches of rocky ground and meadows, but no trails. Come explore with us on our first visit to the area. Who know what we'll find?

We can also visit Buzzard Roost (a nice, short and scenic trail) afterwards on our way back to Evansville.

• Difficulty: Moderate
• Condition: Entirely off-trail
• Length: 3-4 miles total

Note: Boone Creeek is a Wilderness area. No trails exist. We'll be off-trail.

WHAT TO BRING

• Sturdy shoes for hiking
• Day Bag
• Clothing pre-treated with permetherin.
• Duct Tape in case of seed ticks.
• Water (for drinking) and snacks
• Packed lunch (eaten on trail)
• Sunscreen and Bug spray
• Walking stick or hiking poles (optional)
• Clean shoes for the car ride (leave in the car)

GROUND RULES

• Leave no trace, and pack out all your trash.
• No children.
• Dogs on a 6-ft fixed leash. Can be off-leash only while on trail.
