Enjoy stunning views on a beautiful oxbow lake. Once part of the Ohio River, Hovey Lake features cypress trees rising from the water and provides a haven for numerous waterfowl. Spend an afternoon exploring its calm waters and towering cypress trees, soaking in the serene natural beauty.
If time permits, we may hike a short distance (1-2 miles) afterward.

What to Bring
- Kayak or canoe
- PFD (personal flotation device, required)
- Paddles
- Dry bags for gear
- Water and snacks/lunch
- Sunscreen and hat
- Change of dry clothes (in a dry bag)
- Synthetic clothing (no cotton or denim)
- Water shoes or sandals with heel straps for kayaking
- Trail shoes if hiking afterward.
Ground Rules
- All participants must wear a PFD while on the water.
- No alcohol on the water.
- Dogs permitted on 6ft fixed leash.
Notes
- We'll meet at Hovey Lake near the west boat ramp.
- Check-in is required at one of numerous check-in stations.
- Arrange carpooling as needed by using the event comments or contacting members directly.
- No DNR Lake Permit is required for FWA properties.
