Join the Co-op on a nature walk on the Jane Blaffer & Kenneth Dale Owen Heritage Trails during New Harmony's Firefly Festival.
We will meet near the main entrance of The Atheneum Visitors Center, then walk a mi loop north along the Wabash river then through Historic New Harmony.
EVENT DETAILS:
- Difficulty: Easy
- Length: 2.8 Miles
Most of the Jane Blaffer & Kenneth Dale Owen Heritage Trails are gravel or asphalt. The River Trail along the Wabash River may be muddy and slippery. We will detour back to the gravel trail as conditions dictate.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Sturdy shoes for hiking.
- A headlamp or flashlight.
- Water (for drinking) and snacks.
- Bug lotion or spray (picaridin works well for mosquitos)
SCHEDULE (ALL TIMES LISTED IN CENTRAL TIME):
- 7:00 PM: Meet in front of the Atheneum Visitors Center
- 7:10 PM: Start the nature walk
- 9:00 PM: Conclude the walk back at the Antheneum.
GROUND RULES:
- Leave no trace, pack out all your trash.
- No pets.
- Children welcome (accompanied by legal guardian).
NOTES:
- The town of New Harmony is hosting the Firefly Festival that day, so expect heavier traffic than typical.
- Mosquitos are prevalent along the riverfront. But they're a non-issue if you use a Picaradin product! We'll have some extra sprays and lotions that you can use!
- There will be some food trucks at the Antheneum. Consider supporting them and bringing something delicious on your walk!
