Short Notice Day Hike - Charlestown State Park

Hidden just north of Louisville is a state park that holds a fun surprise at its heart. Join us for a trip over to Charlestown State Park for a fun day of exploring and maybe afterwards some good food!

This park is situated along the Ohio River and has multiple hiking areas. We will be doing a combination of three loops (Trails 4/3/7) for a total of ~ 6 miles. Due to the location of the park these trails are easily accessable with some portions being paved. That being said, trail 3 does have a rugged rating so be prepared. 

Should we decide more trail time is needed there are several more 2ish mile loops that we can try.

• Difficulty: Easy to Rugged
• Length: Total 6ish miles  - Trail 4 (2.1 mile loop), Trail 3/7 (3.8 mile loop) 
• Terrain: Rolling Hills with Cliffs, Sections may be steep.

WHO SHOULD JOIN

All are welcome at this event. No experience needed.

What to Bring

• Sturdy hiking shoes or boots
• Day pack
• Water (at least 1L)
• Snacks and/or packed lunch
• Sunscreen and bug spray
• Weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers)
• Walking stick or hiking poles (optional)
• Clean shoes for the car ride home (leave in the car)

Schedule

ALL TIMES LISTED IN CENTRAL TIME (CST/CDT)

• 8:00 AM: Meet at Lowes to Carpool
• 10:15 AM: Arrive at trailhead, begin hike
• 12:00 PM: Lunch on the trail
• 3:15 PM: Return to parking lot
• 5:30 PM: Arrive back at carpool location

Ground Rules

• Leave no trace, and pack out all your trash.
• Dogs welcome on a 6ft fixed leash (non-retractable).

Notes

For anyone interested in spending extra time in and around the greater Louisville Metro Area before heading home there is the option for an early dinner at one of several local restruants. Also there is an REI located just across the river for anyone who has not experienced that joy.
