Ferdinand State Forest

Starting at the Sycamore Shelters, we'll make a 7.5 mile loop north. On the way, we'll stop to climb the firetower and eat lunch. This hike will test your endurance, with more than it's share of hills!

• Difficulty: Moderate
• Length: 7.5 miles
• Terrain: Well-marked (but hilly) dirt trails

Did I mention there are hills? Take a break from them at the firetower, and climb 100' of stairs instead!

What to Bring

• Sturdy hiking shoes or boots
• Day pack
• Water (at least 1L)
• Snacks and/or packed lunch
• Sunscreen and bug spray
• Weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers)
• Walking stick or hiking poles (optional)
• Clean shoes for the car ride home (leave in the car)

Schedule

ALL TIMES LISTED IN CENTRAL TIME (CST/CDT)

• 8:45 AM: Meet at Lowe's to Carpool
• 10:00 AM: Arrive at trailhead, begin hike
• 12:00 PM: Lunch on trail (at firetower)
• 2:15 PM: Wrap up hike
• 3:30 PM: Arrive back at Lowe's

Ground Rules

• Dogs permitted on fixed 6-foot leash only.

Notes

• Hills! Get over them. Again... and again. 😂

• $7 entrance fee for In-State vehicles ($9 out-of-state)
