Buffalo Trace Trails

We rolled the dice, and they landed us somewhere unexpected — a 6-mile loop on the Buffalo Trace Trails behind the French Lick Casino. Afterward, we’ll cash out with dinner at Porky’s BBQ in Paoli.

• Difficulty: Moderate to Rugged
• Length: 5.1 miles
• Terrain: Dirt trails crossing hills, valleys, and ridges.

If you're following along on a map, we'll be hiking Trail 2.

What to Bring

• Sturdy hiking shoes or boots
• Day pack
• Water (at least 1L)
• Snacks and/or packed lunch.
• Weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers)
• Walking stick or hiking poles (optional)
• Clean shoes for the car ride home (leave in the car)

Schedule

ALL TIMES LISTED IN CENTRAL TIME (CST/CDT)

• 7:30 AM: Meet at Lowe's to Carpool
• 9:10 AM: Arrive at trailhead, begin hike
• 12:30 PM: Return to parking lot
• 1:00 PM: Dinner at Porky's BBQ
• 2:45 PM: Depart Paoli
• 4:30 PM: Arrive back at Lowe's

Ground Rules

• Leave no trace, pack out all your trash.
• No children unless specified.
• Dogs permitted** on a 6-foot fixed leash on the trail.
  (But not at restaurant, so consider leaving dogs at home)
