Hemlock Cliffs - Behind the Scenes

Join us for a hidden-trails adventure starting at Hemlock Cliffs, where we’ll leave the main paths behind and explore the quieter corners of the forest. --- More Break --- This off-trail hike involves bushwacking through more rugged terrain to discover secluded natural features. Perfect for hikers who enjoy exploration and a bit of adventure without the formality of trails.

• Difficulty: Moderate to Rugged
• Length:  5-6 miles
• Terrain: Dirt, leaf litter, roots, occasional steep sections; bushwacking required

This hike moves at a steady pace, with planned stops at several natural areas:

• Messemore Cliffs
• Arrowhead Arch
• Some other secret locations

What to Bring

• Sturdy hiking shoes or boots 
• Long pants 👖 
• A flashlight 🔦
• Day pack
• Water (at least 1L)
• Packed Lunch (in your day bag)
• Snacks
• Sunscreen and bug spray (pre-treating with permetherin is recommended)
• Weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers)
• Walking stick or hiking poles (optional)
• Clean shoes for the car ride home (leave in the car)

Schedule

ALL TIMES LISTED IN CENTRAL TIME (CST/CDT)

• 8:00 AM: Meet to Carpool (Lowe's Oak Grove)
• 9:30 AM: Arrive at trailhead, begin hike
• 12:00 PM: Lunch on the trail
• 2:30 PM: Return to parking lot
• 4:00 PM: Arrive back at carpool location

Ground Rules

• Leave no trace, pack out all your trash.
• No children unless specified.
• Dogs permitted (see notes!)

Notes

• Don't forget your flashlight!
• Dogs on a 6-ft fixed leash. Can be off-leash only while on trail.
