Pennyrile Day Hike

Join us for a scenic lap around the lake at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park! This peaceful loop winds through shaded hardwood forest and hugs the shoreline of Pennyrile Lake, offering a mix of woodland paths, small bridges, and lakeside overlooks. It’s a great fall hike for anyone looking to enjoy crisp air, calm water views, and good company.

• Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
• Length: 5 miles
• Terrain: Rolling forested hills, roots, and a few rocky sections
• Special Considerations: One short climb and a few uneven spots near the dam.

What to Bring

• Sturdy hiking shoes or boots
• Day pack
• Water (at least 1L)
• Snacks and/or packed lunch
• Sunscreen and bug spray
• Weather-appropriate clothing (dress in layers)
• Walking stick or hiking poles (optional)
• Clean shoes for the car ride home (leave in the car)

Schedule

ALL TIMES LISTED IN CENTRAL TIME (CST/CDT)

• 8:30 AM – Meet at Lowe’s (Evansville East) to carpool
• 10:00 AM – Arrive at trailhead, begin hike
• 3:30 PM – Wrap up the hiking
• 5:00 PM – Arrive in Evansville

• No children.
• Dogs permitted at organizer’s discretion (must be leashed).

• Restrooms available near the lodge and beach areas.
• Trail may be muddy after rain.
