Casual Paddle at Hovey Lake

Enjoy stunning views a beautiful oxbow lake. Once part of the Ohio River, Hovey Lake features cypress trees rising from the water and provides a haven for numerous waterfowl. Spend an afternoon exploring its calm waters and towering cypress trees, soaking in the serene natural beauty.

If time permits, we may hike a short distance (1-2 miles).

What to Bring

• Kayak or canoe
• PFD (personal flotation device, required)
• Paddles
• Dry bags for gear
• Water and snacks/lunch
• Sunscreen and hat
• Change of dry clothes (in a dry bag)
• Synthetic clothing (no cotton or denim)
• Water shoes or sandals with heel straps for kayaking
• Trail shoes if hiking afterward.

Ground Rules

• All participants must wear a PFD while on the water.
• No alcohol on the water.
• Dogs permitted on 6ft fixed leash.

Notes

• We'll meet at Hovey Lake near the west boat ramp.
• Check-in is required at one of numerous check-in stations.
• Arrange carpooling as needed by using the event comments or contacting members directly.
• No DNR Lake Permit is required for FWA properties.
