Pike State Forest (Day Hike + Ropework)

Join the Co-op for a more casual hiking day followed by some ropework. Plan to hike 4 miles along the Patoka River and through mixed hardwood and pine forest. Stay for picnic lunch and ropework!

The hike is moderately easy with gentle inclines. We’ll eat lunch after the hike at a picnic shelter. 

Stick around afterward lunch to learn and practice ropework (Alpine SRT) using a frog system. We'll tie to some trees to practice rigging and maneuvering obstacles on rope.

ALL TIMES ARE LISTED IN CENTRAL DAYLIGHT (CDT)

Plan to meet at Lowe's at 9:00 AM (CDT). We'll carpool, to Pike State Forest and meet at the Shelter House. From there, we can shuttle to our trailheads. You can leave your lunch in the car, but pack water and a few snacks in your day bag.

WHERE/WHEN TO MEET:

• 9:00a - Meet at Lowe's to carpool
• 10:00a - Arrive at Pike State Forest Shelter/Playground
• 12:00p - Lunch at Shelter
• 1:00p - Begin ropework
• 5:00p - Wrap up
• 6:00p - arrive in Evansville

WHAT TO BRING:

• sturdy shoes for hiking
• water (for drinking) and snacks
• packed lunch (can leave in car)
• Sunscreen and Bug spray
• any vertical gear you have if doing ropework
• gloves and helmet (required) for ropework

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

• Trails are rated moderate to easy with extended low inclines

• Dogs welcome on 6ft non-retractable leash.
• Leave no trace, and pack out all your trash.
