McCormick's Creek (Day Trip)

Join the Co-op for an exciting day at Indiana's first State Park.

Descend into a limestone canyon, wade through the stream, take a trail shortcut through a mini-cave (optional), and climb a firetower while hiking approx. 6-8 miles at McCormicks Creek State Park.

ALL TIMES ARE LISTED IN CENTRAL DAYLIGHT (CDT)

Plan to meet at Lowe's at 7:00 AM (CDT). We'll carpool, to McCormick's Creek for a day of hiking. Hiking begins by 9:30a. Lunch will be eaten on the trail. We'll wrap up by 5pm.

• WHERE/WHEN TO MEET:
• 7:00a - Meet at Lowe's to carpool
• 9:00a - Arrive at McCormick's Creek
• 9:15a - Begin hiking
• Lunch on trail
• 5:00p - Depart McCormick's
• 5:30p - stop for dinner (TBD) in Bloomington
• 9:00p - arrive in Evansville

WHO SHOULD JOIN:

• People who enjoy a day full of hiking on varied terrain.

WHAT TO BRING:

• quick-drying synthetic clothing in case you get wet (not jeans and not cotton)
• sturdy shoes for hiking
• additional water shoes (optional) for wading through McCormick's creek
• extra pair of socks
• water (for drinking) and snacks
• picnic lunch
• Sunscreen and Bug spray
• a flashlight for Wolf Cave

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

• We'll hike approximately 8 miles
• Trails are rated moderate to rugged, and include steep stairs
• Trail 4 has a firetower that reopened in 2020.
• Trail 5 offers a shortcut through Wolf Cave. (If you don't like caves, just follow the trail to meet us on the other side).
• Trail 7 has a lot of stairs descending into the canyon
• We'll stop for dinner on the way back through Bloomington.

COST:

Drivers will have a $7 park entrance fee at McCormick's Creek.

GROUND RULES:

• No children
• No pets
• Leave no trace, and pack out all your trash.
